Big Wild Goose Pagoda

The Big Wild Goose Pagoda located only about 4 km from downtown Xian. This is a religious structure, belonging to Buddhists. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda is to be found in the Da Ci'en Temple Complex. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda was constructed during the Tang dynasty, during the reign of the Chinese emperor Gaozong. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda contains a rich wealth of Buddhist materials. The materials were originally collected by Xuanzang. The materials came from India, so the Sanskrit had to translated to Chinese.

The Big Wild Goose Pagoda stands 211.6 feet tall, 2 stories were added later on. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda has beautiful examples of calligraphy and sculpture. Each story has arch-shaped doors on all four sides. This imposing structure is made from bricks, there is a winding staircase inside. It is a treat to climb up these stairs and enjoy a panoramic view of Xian. From outside, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda looks resembles a square conical structure. It is a remarkable example of Buddhist construction. The Da Ci'en Temple Complex is usually open to visitors from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. However, it is advisable to check the days and the hours, before you visit the site.
