The Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang

Chang'an was the ancient name for Xian. Xian is situated in the north western part of China. The city of Xian was the capital of China for over a 1000 years. It had seen the rules of a series of dynasties, beginning with the Qin dynasty, before it was brought under Communist rule shortly before the Second World War. Xian is one of the reigning tourist centers of China. The Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang is very popular tourist attraction in Xian. The Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang was accidentally discovered in 1974.

The Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang may not ring a bell with most people, but the terracotta soldiers of Xian, certainly would. These terracotta soldiers were uncovered accidentally, near the mausoleum, and are believed to be a part of the Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang.

The Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang is located in Lintong County, very near to Xian. This is the tomb of China's first emperor Qin Shi Huangdi (259 BC- 210 BC). It overlooks the Lishan mountains, and the Wei river. The mausoleum is encircled by walls, these walls actually help to camouflage the main area of the Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang. The Terracotta Warriors And Horses have been converted into a separate display. This is a UNESCO world cultural heritage site.
