Sydney de Kantzow, an Australian and Roy Farrell, an American founded Cathay Pacific Airways in the year 1946 on 24th September in Hong Kong. They named the airline “Cathay” after the ancient name of China and the name “Pacific” arose because of the speculation of the airline flying over the Pacific. 2006 was the 60th anniversary of the foundation of the airline.
